6th gene: In the Matrix, handshakes take place among the church benches; hands shake other hypocritical hands, hands that do untold things. Otherwise who knows what the other hands might think, they would be shocked. Hands that kill the poor with hunger, kill the weak with strength, outsiders with exclusion, minorities with defamation, the simple with indifference, the ignorant with derision, the humble with humiliation, the sick with alienation… Hands that are raised against brothers behind their backs. In short, the weakness of the many in the Matrix is exploited by the thirst for power of the few.

7th gene: In the Matrix, the “I want it all, right now” philosophy is all the rage, sacrifices are avoided, people hate to do without, the new is loved at the expense of the old, the “throwaway” mentality is encouraged, total sexual freedom is commended… In short, consumerism in the Matrix is a virus that has poisoned even the most intimate and delicate of human relationships.

8th gene: In the Matrix, thieves reign. It’s enough to glance at the world of Matrixian politics and business to perceive notable social injustice on every level. Those with more know the luxurious, elegant means by which to elude public control, keeping money in their pockets which should go to the community, resorting to the principles of “creative tax contribution”. In short, the thief with the white collar, jacket and tie is very often an important and influential person in the Matrix. Unfortunately, the small businessman and private citizen are increasingly adapting to this modus operandi which is not at all transparent and is deeply submerged in the black swamp of bad business practices.

9th gene: In the Matrix, white lies exist. Falsity is increasingly excused as a harmless omission for a good cause. In the Matrix the biggest lie is “all are equal before the law”. The wealthiest can afford cynical consultants who delve into the legal maze, deforming it to suit their own aims and pleasure. In short, there are liars who are judged guilty and liars who are absolved.
The heart of the Matrix pulses to a rhythm of open, blatant rebellion against the Creator and His ninth gene: “Do not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16). Do my lips and my attitude always declare the truth?
10th gene: In the Matrix, the citizens live in fear of seeming poor, they flaunt what they have and covet what they don’t, then they buy what they don’t have, they accumulate things, constantly in competition with the neighbors. They do things they want people to talk about, they spend, expand and they are what they own.
The heart of the Matrix pulses to a rhythm of open, blatant rebellion against the creator and His tenth gene: “Do not covet your neighbor’s house; do not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his butler, or his maid, or his oxen, or his donkey, or anything else that is your neighbor’s” (Exodus 20:17). What dream am I chasing with my deepest aspirations?
