THE END OF THE LONG EXILE
And I saw a generation arise
that no longer wished to hold the world in its fist,
but to catch it one moment before it fell.
For centuries, humanity had called strength the power to break,
and greatness the measure of fear a name could sow.
They had clothed the earth in iron.
They had armed the heavens.
They had taught fire to recognise every target.
Yet they had still not found the wisdom required
to restrain a finger before the final command.
Then something trembled.
Not in the palaces. Not upon the maps. Not within the arsenals.
It trembled in humanity’s most secret chamber,
where no one else can enter,
where a choice becomes destiny
and a single moment can condemn generations.
A powerful man
suddenly felt breathing within him
all those who had no seat at the table:
the children not yet born,
the mothers clutching their children’s bodies,
the elderly left alone at the threshold,
the generations to come waiting to receive from his hands
a garden or a wasteland of ashes.
And for the first time, power recoiled in horror from itself.
It was not cowardice. It was remembrance.
From beneath the ruins of the soul,
something ancient opened its eyes again.
An Image.
Buried beneath fear.
Disfigured by hatred.
Covered by the ashes
of every war ever fought
in the name of victory.
And the man understood.
He could conquer the whole earth,
make nations tremble,
carve his name into history,
and lose forever
his likeness to the One
who had set his heart alight.
Then he spoke a single word: “Enough.”
And that word passed through the chambers of command
like blood returning to a dying body.
It entered the calculations. Silenced the mechanisms.
Halted the machinery
that turns a wound into vengeance,
vengeance into another wound,
and the suffering of fathers into the curse of their children.
It was then that strength remembered its true name.
The sword became responsibility.
Power opened its hands.
Justice ceased searching for the guilty
and began searching for what could still be saved.
Authority descended from its throne, removed its crown,
and knelt beside wounded life.
And humanity understood:
mercy is not the refuge of the weak.
It is a fire so pure
that it can enter the heart of evil
without allowing evil
to imprint its face upon it.
Then the nations shattered their ancient scales.
They no longer asked: How much do you possess?
But: How much life did you protect
when you had the power to destroy it?
No longer: How many people bow before you?
But: How many can remain standing
without their freedom wounding your pride?
No longer: How far can your weapons reach?
But: How far are you willing to go
rather than lose your brother?
And within the heart of humanity,
something began to breathe.
Not a new creature. The first.
The human being as once contemplated
before fear shattered the voice,
before violence hardened the hands,
before domination erased Heaven from the eyes.
The image of the Father. The likeness of His character.
Every life preserved
restored a line of the original Face.
Every act of forgiveness
washed away a little of the ash.
Every enemy recognised as a brother
returned to Creation a lost fragment of Papa.
And Heaven held its breath.
For beneath the ruins,
beneath the blood,
beneath centuries of fear,
the Image was still there.
Wounded, but not destroyed.
Hidden, but never erased.
The long exile was drawing to an end.
Humanity had not become stronger.
Humanity had become the Father’s children again.
And as His children returned,
the Face of the Father became visible within them once more.
Then they recognised the way.
Home was not merely
the place awaiting them beyond the final frontier.
Home was the likeness being reborn within them
each time they chose to love as Papa loves.
And when the last ash fell away from their faces,
humanity understood.
It was not conquering the future.
It was not reaching Heaven.
It was returning
to what it had always been within the heart of the Father.
His image. His likeness. His child.
The long exile was over.
Humanity had come Home.
