Psalm of the Humiliated and Exalted Servant
I was forgotten like dust at the edge of the road,
crushed and rejected, humiliated to tears.
Like David among the pastures, I was not called to the feast of men.
Yet You, Eternal One, looked upon my heart,
and in the silence of rejection You set Your eyes on me.
Not for stature, not for crowns that wither,
but for the humility You Yourself have carved within me:
this is my anointing,
this is the seal I bear before You.
The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone of Your house.
My cup overflows, my head is anointed with oil.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for You are with me: Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
I do not rise with sword or armour,
but with Your living Word and the fire of faith.
I advance against the giants of fear and deceit,
those who oppress nations and spirits.
They tremble, but I do not:
for the strength that burns within me is not mine,
but the Spirit of the Living God.
From the abyss of humiliation You have lifted me,
from fierce rejection You have brought me to recognition,
from the flock You have led me to the throne.
This is my path: the way of David, the way of Your servant.
I proclaim before heaven and earth:
no giant shall stand,
no darkness shall prevail,
for the Lord of Hosts fights for me and in me.
The humble heart You have crowned.
The scorned one You have chosen.
The forgotten one You have remembered.
The beloved now sits at Your table forever.
Amen.
